Daily program/ Timetable

Volunteer work is for only 4 1/2 hours in the morning every day, in the afternoon, we have free activities such as sports, Kenya traditional dance classes, traditional cooking classes, and sports. Weekends are made for exploring our country and Safaris with local volunteers and your fellow overseas volunteers. Below is a tentative Weekdays timetable;

6:00 am - if you are feeling motivated, you are welcome to join the daily meditation or morning exercise of running / GMY
8:00 am - We serve a delicious and healthy breakfast
9:00 am - 13:30 pm - Volunteer work
14:00pm to 18:00pm - Complementary activities (free time activities stated below)
4:00 pm - Yoga class, and learn Kenyan traditional songs, Dances, and cooking that will make you love Kenya even more, including our local Swahili language if interested. The classes are suitable for all levels and usually last about an hour and a half.
8:00 pm - Dinner is served

Volunteer Fee required
$35 per day
- (60%-80%) of volunteer fees is to take care of you while staying with us, sent to Host families/ Volunteer house management
- (10% - 20%) goes to project Donations that you will be participating

Misión México provides a loving, secure home for children and young adults of all ages who have been abused, neglected, orphaned or abandoned.

Children and young adults are referred to us by the Government Welfare Department and we provide a loving and stable home for them for as long as they need it. The number of children and young adults in our care changes constantly, but on average we care for between 30 and 40 children on a permanent basis.

Almost all of the children and young adults have suffered extreme poverty and abuse. Some have experienced unspeakable violence.

Since it was established in 2001, Misión México has helped transform the lives of more than 250 children, giving them a much deserved second chance at life. All are regaining a sense of confidence and self respect having found Misión México.

The refuge resembles a family home rather than an institution, where the children feel loved and secure. The children attend school, which some of them have not experienced before. They also have access to tutors to help with their studies, and access to education psychologists and therapists.

The children are also learning to swim and surf and are the only surfers in Tapachula! Surfing is a previously unknown activity in the area, yet it has become a uniquely transforming sporting activity for these children.

Our surfing programme is being introduced to enable the kids to find confidence in themselves and a belief that they can achieve anything they want.

Living at Misión México is an intense but wonderful time for volunteers. We cover every day from 5.30am until 9.30pm (split into no more than eight hour shifts) and are responsible for helping with the daily running of the refuge - such as wake-up, chore supervision, homework, meal supervision, getting ready for school, bed-time and other activities like sport, art and craft or whatever skill you want to bring to the house.

We need people who are loving but can also discipline the children. These children come to us from a history of abuse, neglect and poverty. Part of their education with us is not only going to school, but also learning how to be respectful, look after their things and learn to live with others as a family. It is important to stress that this isn't a holiday but a busy work time for volunteers, but it is so rewarding and you will walk away from here with so much love for the children. Volunteers will have at least one full day off every week to rest.

Our contribution fee is set at 4000 Mexican pesos (approx. 150 GBP) and payment of the fee is to be made on arrival, in local currency, if your application is successful. The contribution fee covers the costs associated with our volunteer accommodations and administration. This includes, but is not limited to, the cost of electricity, maintenance and one meal a day for volunteers (eaten with the children at lunch time).

The project is a community-focused initiative that aims to improve water quality, quantity and restore habitat for wild species through planting of 25000 water friendly, economic and medicinal trees. Further it will educate 100 youths in the community on sustainable forest management, tree planting and monitoring. This project has a target timeframe of 4years. A typical day looks like the following: At 9 AM TO 10 AM volunteers will have breakfast, 11 AM the volunteer program begins and ends at 1 PM. We go back to the compound and freshen up. A wonderful initiative to share happiness among street and slum children has been taken in Ajmer by Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan, with the support of Global Giving Foundation. Under this project, nutritious food, toys, sweets, new dress, chocolates are provided to street and slum children.

Efforts are taken continuously to enlighten the life of these unlucky children by means of fireworks, colors, water-guns, cake, etc on the occasion of festivals as Christmas, Diwali, Holi.



Demand of the Project

The life of slum and street children is surrounded by darkness. The sense of alienation of society leads them to get involved into immoral acts as theft, addiction, prostitution. Happiness is miles away from these children. They hardly get two meals a day. These unlucky and helpless children can never think of delicious food, toys, new clothes even in their dreams.

The society just gets them abuse, exploitation and the sense of alienation only which develops exasperation towards the society in their hearts. Lack of food leads them to suffer from malnutrition. Moreover, there life is full of darkness even on the occasions of festivals. Altogether, these slum and street children live their life in darkness staying miles away from happiness of childhood.

Make A Wish Program is Fulfilling the Dreams of those marginalized children living in the remote areas.

The Volunteers can do a Photography session or make documentary videos of all the work which we are doing with the marginalized people. We also have farming programs, so to educate the rural people about better farming techniques would be beneficial.

Volunteer Tasks
A childcare volunteer's help is always welcome by the staff at the centre who are constantly busy. Volunteers may be asked to assist with the bathing of the children, dressing them, feeding them, as well as helping to keep them entertained and happy.

Recreational Games
A childcare volunteer would be expected to teach the children some recreational games and activities. One of the best things that a volunteer could do is to play with the children. However, the volunteer must be aware that HIV infected children are prone to infections so games and activities must take this aspect into consideration.

Songs and Rhymes
One of the best ways to connect with children is by singing and dancing. Most kids like to sing and dance. Childcare volunteers may teach the children basic educational games through rhymes and fun songs and at the same time improve their English skills. Volunteers should do their homework prior to their placement and bring a repertoire of great songs & rhymes to teach various lessons.

Household Chores
A childcare volunteer may be asked to help in the general cleaning of the centre and help in the preparation and delivery of meals, as well as assist in maintaining an attractive appearance to the building and its grounds.

Local host families are carefully selected because they are friendly, welcoming, and will go out of their way to look after our volunteers. Where we can’t provide host families we place our volunteers together in secure accommodation.

Food

We will ensure you are provided with 3 square meals a day.

Back-up

We have well trained staffs in all the communities we engaged. Staff can be contacted 24 hours a day. They are responsible for your general well-being and liaise with your placement, accommodation, and support.
Volunteers incur small costs on placement since CSAG does not have a sponsor at this moment. This will be waived as soon as we receive sponsorship to place volunteers. Your cost now depends on the length of your stay and your accommodation preference.
