The general objectives of the project is tο creаte persοnаl аnd prοfessiοnаl develοpment οppοrtunities fοr 10 internаtiοnаl vοlunteers аnd 180 students frοm 4 pаrtners by implementinɡ 120 nοn-fοrmаl аctivities thаt help students develοp the skills required tο debаtes issues аrοund 3 cοre tοpics: multiculturаlism, sοlidаrity аnd аctive citizenship.

The specific objectives are to fаmiliаrize students with:
- the bаsics οf debаtinɡ, whаt it is, why it develοps а useful skill set fοr sο mаny οther аreаs οf life, hοw а debаte is cοnducted/οrɡаnized, etc;
- the skill set required fοr successful debаtinɡ: critiςаl thinkinɡ, reseаrch, usinɡ rhetοric tο persuаde, аbility tο structure аnd οrɡаnize thοuɡhts, cοnfidence, pοise, аnd self-esteem, teаmwοrk;
- the аct οf debаtinɡ аs а reɡulаr аctivity.

Working hours are flexible and adapted to the schedule of the target institutions and is usually 3-4 hours/day in with the youngsters and 1-2 hours/day for preparing theactivities.

Each volunteer is entitled to receiving 2 free days/week (typically weekends but in case that an activity requires work on the weekend the volunteer will be free in the next days) and a total of 12 days of vacation in the project that you can use as you want.

International travel, local transport, accommodation and utility fees, monthly communication costs, costs related to activities are covered directly by the project.

The volunteers will be hosted at in rented apartments in the city of Craiova. Each accommodation will assure good living conditions (private beds, equipped kitchen and bathroom, heating system, running cold/ hot water, Wi-Fi).

Monthly food allowance: 150 euro/month

Pocket money: 90 euro/month

Each volunteer will receive a Romanian SIM cards for mobile phones which will be recharged monthly

Обучение состоится в середине февраля 2020 г. в Санкт-Петербурге, оно будет проходить 2-3 дня. На нем мы разберем теорию игротехники: принципы образовательной игротехники, классификации игр, игровые инструменты, подбор формы игры под задачу и т.д. И затем будем практиковаться и создавать группой пул социально-экологических игр для севера Европейской части России по результатам работы экспедиций в регионе.

В числе игр будут и настольные игры, и игры живого действия, и коммуникативные - на любой вкус, в зависимости от темы и задачи каждой конкретной игры.

По итогам проекта по каждой успешной игре мы соберем "коробки" - доведем игру до полноценной формы, в которой ее можно использовать дальше без нас (то есть любой может взять игру и сыграть/провести ее по инструкции).

В качестве просветительских материалов можно использовать брошюры и буклеты, учебные пособия и инфографику, мультфильмы и образовательные игры.

Программа для вас будет состоять из трёх частей:
1) введение в результаты экспедиций, проходивших на севере европейской части России в течение 2019 г.
2) обучение созданию игр на экологическую и социальную тематику - “введение в игротехнику”;
3) выезд в один из населенных пунктов Архангельской/Вологодской/Мурманской области с целью проведения игровой программы для местных жителей (учеников школы и/или взрослых).


Сроки: ориентировочные даты обучения - 14-16 февраля, выезд в населенный пункт - в течение 2020 г. (по согласованию с местными жителями)

Наша задача - в веселой и ёмкой игровой форме поднять экологические проблемы, возникающие как следствие изменений климата, характерные для конкретного региона, и возможные пути их решения.

Why volunteer with us?

We believe volunteers with good and passionate teaching knowledge add value to the teachers already employed in our community schools. There is the opportunity for the schools to learn innovative learning and teaching skills.

Placement is free; volunteers will be living with our host family in Obomeng. However, volunteers pay $10 to support the running of the various services like water and electricity among other facilities volunteers will use at the host family.

Volunteers will pay for their transport from Accra airport to placement area.On your arrival, there will be our staff Nana or Bright who will pick you up and travel with you to Kwahu by state transport bus. Other expenses Will be personal movement within the Kwahu area (fix cost). Our reliable taxi drivers will always be available to drive you around. Volunteers will always move out with a guide until they've been able to learn the routes in the Kwahu environment. We trust our taxi drivers and they will be there always to escort you to locations of interest.

Placement in Obomeng is mostly a walking distance to the Presby or the D/A school. Location farther from obomeng will attract transport cost but you will know more during induction.

Bedrooms - 

Bedrooms are shared usually between 2 - 3 people. Most bedrooms are a medium size and come with a mix of single or bunk beds. Rooms have health features that prevent mosquitos and other insects. You can bring other net structures that ensure quality health precautions.

Bathrooms - 

The host family have 2 baths available for volunteers at their convenience .They all have attached toilet access and the flow of water. There are times when water usage will have to be considerate during the dry season.


Leisure Area -

You will find a sizable corridor area where volunteers can relax and enjoy drinks and read as well. This spacious area is mostly turned into a movie corner in the night , volunteers can bring along their favorite movies in all formats to help keep the volunteer period more fun.

Horizon Lanka Foundation is a non-profit organization (registered as a Guarantee Limited Company) located in Mahawilachchiya, the rural outskirts of Anuradhapura, the most ancient city of Sri Lanka. It runs academic programs for students in rural villages in Sri Lanka. The student body is made up primarily of local children who come to Horizon Academies after public school, during weekends and public school vacations. The Academies teach English, Information and Communication Technology, science, mathematics, fine arts, and sports to the children. We also train the children in skills such as presentation, public speaking and personal development. In addition to these subjects, students learn much more. Thanks to our dedicated staff and the hard work of local and foreign volunteers, the students also learn important life skills such as interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, tolerance, leadership, caring for others and the environment, sustainable development and teamwork.

The Horizon Lanka Foundation is a pillar in the local communities and works with them to improve the lives of all involved. We do this by assigning our local and foreign volunteers to assist the local public schools during morning sessions as Horizon Academies do not open during mornings except for school holidays and long public school vacations. Our ultimate goal is to empower rural youth so that they may work towards improving the conditions of their community as well as the surrounding communities.

Women Empowerment Centers (pre- and post-lunch):
There are about 30 women and teenage girls in each of our Empowerment centers in Jodhpur, who have little or no education. The teenage girls may have dropped out of school to look after their siblings, or may not have attended at all. These centers help to provide a good general education, (in addition to basic English, Hindi and Math) by providing workshops in a variety of topics, from Women’s Health and Nutrition to Politics and Geography. All these workshops (and more!) are on a Google Drive, accessible on arrival to Sambhali.
Usually, volunteers stay at one of our centers the whole day. They will get a lunch box from Durag Niwas Guesthouse and eat together with the local teachers and some students at their projects.

Primary Education Centers (post-lunch): There are 4 centers in Jodhpur with approximately 30-40 children (boys and girls, 5-12 years old). These centers have been established to teach the children of the mothers’ who attend the empowerment centers and to extend this out to others. The aim is to provide a basic education in Hindi, English and Math to enable and encourage these children to go to school. For the very young children, art & craft and primary education workshops will also be given as well as general knowledge workshops on a weekly basis.

Girls Homes:
Sambhali Trust has 2 Boarding Homes for young girls who come from the rural desert area surrounding Setrawa, 110km west of Jodhpur: Sheerni and Laadli Boarding Home.
The aim is to provide these girls with a good education until 12th standard (final year at school) and college after to enable them to reach their potential and have better opportunities.
Volunteers visit the girls for 3 hours every afternoon (Monday-Friday) to provide extra tuition in English and Math, weekly educational workshops and sports/outdoor activities.
Additionally, they will play games with the girls, dance and read stories.

We have four schools where we offer education to children that would not otherwise get it. These are: Baljeet Nagar School, Nehru Nagar Slum School, Zakheera Slum School and Pandav Nagar Slum School. -Women's empowerment program
Unfortunately, many women in slums in New Delhi finds themself in horrible situations like not being able to care for their children after their husbands death etc. Sonu gives these women opportunities to support themselves and their children through self-sustainable enterprises. Teaching the women different skills such as sewing, candle-making and running their own businesses is just a small step towards giving these women more freedom and confidence. -Thriveseed Responsible Tourism
This project, launched in 2017, enables former Thriveseed pupils to earn money by working as tour organisers. This not only provides former Thriveseed students with an income that they would not have otherwise had, but it also encourages current Thriveseed students to pursue their education to a high level so that they develop the maths, English and Hindi writing skills necessary to carry out this type of work. We accept all kind of help and are happy to share any of your gifts with our students. Of course, we do need assistance in our english, math and hindi classes, but you could also help out with teaching the women in the women's empowerment program handcraft that you know, make food in our community kitchen etc. We also love to teach the children new kind of games that you might know from your home country. You could also help with taking pictures and posting about our project on social media -Imagination is the only limit when it comes to helping out with our project.

When volunteering with us, you pay a one time registration fee of 15 USD. This goes directly to keeping our project running.

If you are choosing to stay with one of our host families, the price for accommodation and food is 120 USD each week. You are also free to stay other places, and will then not pay any fee other than the one time fee of 15 USD.

Placement comes at a minimum charge; volunteers will be living with our host family in Accra. However, volunteers pay $70 per month to support utility bills and other facilities volunteers will use at the host family's residence.

What to pack?
Casual clothes mostly. If you are a sports enthusiast you'll need to come along with your sports apparel.

Don't hesitate to phone in for further inquiries on things to bring and not to bring. There is also the possibility of making purchases here in Ghana hence don't overpack.
