This is the 3d edition of the project implemented at Bolgar Historical and Archaeological Complex World Heritage site, Russia. The volunteers are engaged in archaeological heritage conservation, research and interpretation activities.

Bolgar World Heritage Volunteers is an annual project of the Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve aimed to involve young people in conservation and sustainable development of the Bolgar Historical and Archaeological Complex. The project is implemented via 2-week action camps within the framework of the UNESCO World Heritage Volunteers Initiative. The programme of these camps includes hands-on activities focused on the conservation of Bolgar’s heritage as well as educational events and guided tours. The third Bolgar World Heritage Volunteers International Action Camp will be held from 21 July to 2 August 2019. The action camp will bring together over 15 international and Russian volunteers. The volunteers will participate in hands-on activities for the conservation and sustainable development of the Bolgar Historical and Archaeological Complex, including archaeological excavations, archaeological collections sorting, maintenance works and video-films production. The awareness-raising activities of the action camp will include lectures and seminars on UNESCO World Heritage, guided tours in Bolgar and Kazan, events (presentations and meetings) as well as workshops on traditional crafts.

We are looking for young, open-minded, hard-working and active people between 18 and 35 with a strong interest in cultural heritage and archaeology, regardless of nationality.

There is no registration/participation fee. Moscow-Kazan-Moscow train transfer and Kazan-Bolgar- Kazan coach transfer, accommodation in a tent camp and food (3 meals a day) are provided.

Visa support for non-Russian nationals is provided, if needed. The working language of the project is English.
