Duration of the project is 12 months Expected Starting Date: Immediate The 1991 Paris Peace Agreement marked the end of decades of violence and civil war in Cambodia. UN supervised elections in 1993 heralded the introduction of multi-party democracy. After a period of powersharing, the Cambodian People’s Party has progressively consolidated its power following the 1998 elections and the adoption of the “win-win policy”. In the past decades, Cambodia has achieved impressive results in terms of economic growth recently achieving the status of Lower-Middle Income Country status. In sustaining rapid growth, Cambodia faces the challenges of a narrowly based economy and persisting disparities. In addition, competing interests have sometimes resulted in land disputes and environmental degradation. The UN Volunteer will work in the Resident Coordinator Office and report to the Peace and Development Advisor (PDA). The UN priorities in Cambodia as per 2019-2023 UNDAF are: 1) expanding socio-economic opportunities; 2) promoting sustainable living; 3) managing urbanisation; and 4) promoting accountability and participation. The 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the main drivers for inclusive and sustainable development. The UN Volunteer will work closely with the PDA, focusing on supporting and strengthening linkages and collaboration with civil society partners, universities and think tanks on issues related to social cohesion, peacebuilding and SDG 16. The UN Volunteer will also support the PDA in reviewing programmatic interventions led by UNDP and other UN agencies. Qualifications/Requirements The incumbent must be a dynamic, team-oriented, multi-functional person who supports the UNCT with professionalism and dedication. The following qualifications are required: University background is required (e.g. Bachelors and/or Masters or professional degree). Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Peace Studies or related field. Required experience: 24 months Experience Remark: - 2 to 3 years previous working experience in the field of social development involving national and international interlocutors (i.e. international community, civil sector, public institutions) - Strong communication, strategic thinking, public relations and advisory skills, including written and presentations - Demonstrated knowledge of peacebuilding, conflict sensitivity and conflict analysis Language: English (mandatory), Fluent (read the full list of requirements here: https://www.unv.org/sites/default/files/special_calls/KHMR000064.pdf)

Under the direct supervision of Peace and Development Advisor, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: - Assist in identifying areas of programmatic engagement with national stakeholders related to social cohesion, peacebuilding and consensus building, as appropriate. In doing so, systematically consider and streamline gender and social inclusion - Undertake a mapping and analysis of civil society actors’ (including youth, women, and marginalized groups) capacities for social cohesion/ peacebuilding at local and national level, using the exercise to inform the support provided to the PDA and UNCT throughout the duration of the assignment - Support the PDA in his engagement with national stakeholders, focusing particularly on engaging with various civil society actors at local level who may not otherwise have access or engagement with the international community (read the full list of tasks here: https://www.unv.org/sites/default/files/special_calls/KHMR000064.pdf)

The Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) is paid at the end of each month to cover housing, utilities, transportation, communications and other basic needs. The VLA can be computed by applying the PostAdjustment Multiplier (PAM) to the VLA base rate of US$ 1,602. The VLA base rate is a global rate across the world, while the PAM is duty station/country-specific and fluctuates on a monthly basis according to the cost of living. Allowances provided are: - volunteer living allowance: a monthly allowance intended to cover basic living expenses - travel expenses: for travel to duty station upon appointment and for repatriation at the end of the assignment - settling-in-grant: a grant calculated on the duration of assignment, paid at the beginning of the assignment - insurances: life, health and permanent disability insurance - annual leave - resettlement allowance: calculated based on the duration of assignment, paid upon satisfactory completion of the assignment.
