Aim: - Sustainability: We try to source our food from local or regional producers and introduce this culture to our community. But we don’t stop there. We built Amarante’s first biodynamic garden in the beginning of 2015 and will continue to spread the word about the benefits of eating and growing local through our weekly Bio & Fair market. Our dedication to being sustainable is in all aspects: financial, ecological, social. It is an ongoing process and as the saying goes: ”Practice makes perfection.” - Fairness: Being fair is more than just a one-time declaration. It’s in our everyday and in our every move. Not only are we a valuable local partner to many schools, kindergartens, and places such as Cercimarante and Santa Casa, but we are also a promoter of a #Fairness mindset that we want to spread across Portugal – the appreciation of Fair Trade as a tool of bringing justice to underprivileged people around the globe. To open the first Fair Trade Shop in the country in late 1999 was the first declaration for a bigger goal – turn Amarante into the country’s first Fair Trade Certified Town. - Dialogue: Finally, we are dedicated to dialogue. Through our many mobility and volunteer projects, youth exchanges, and cultural events we try to bring the world to Amarante.

Activities: group dynamics; presentation to the city and region; discussion on the workcamp theme (objectives, tasks division); visit to the most important places of the city; training on theatre performance and workshop on how to deal with the difference; direct contact and work with local NGO (Cercimarante) responsible for activities with local handicapped young people; organize an event (theatre performance) involving both groups (workcamp participants and local handicapped young people) to be presented to the local community (street performance – expected more than 500 persons to attend).

Participants will be accommodated in shared rooms (4 participants each) of Casa da Juventude de Amarante. Casa da Juventude de Amarante has its own kitchen, WC, and showers. In terms of food, our youth centre has a bar\restaurant proposal for the volunteers (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) always taking into consideration our aims (healthy food with organic and vegetarian ingredients).
