The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide.
Duration of the project is 12 months Expected Starting Date: Immediate The United Nations System in Senegal has more than thirty agencies, funds and programs, some of which are regional or sub regional representations spanning several countries. The diversity of their mandates and expertise is conducive to inter-agency cooperation within the UN Country Team through the Resident Coordinator. The Information and Communication Specialist role is to contribute to the effectiveness, credibility and visibility of the United Nations actions in support of the implementation of the UNDAF, Agenda 2030 in relation to the key priorities and vision of development of Senegal through the “Plan Senegal Emergent” and the project "Maison ONU Afrique de l’Ouest - Diamniadio. He/she will participate in the development of interdisciplinary knowledge products and communication strategy, collaborate in the collection and analysis of information on strategic themes interdisciplinary development initiatives, while identifying opportunities for specific documentation and dissemination of best practices and lessons learned. S/he will work closely with the UNIC Regional Team. Qualifications/Requirements Required Degree Level: Master degree or equivalent Experience Remark: - Demonstrated interest or experience (up to two years) in production of communication and knowledge products; - Proven skills in writing and editing - Good understanding of development issues in Africa - Team-player and organizational skills - Excellent computer skills Language Skills: - English (mandatory), Level - Fluent - French (optional), Level - Working Knowledge

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Coordination Unit, the Youth UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: - Enhance and reinforce the UN Coordination Unit communication on its countrywide activities (50%) - Documenting and Communicating cross practice Results of the United Nations System in Senegal (50%) (read the full list of tasks here: https://www.unv.org/sites/default/files/special_calls/SENR000378.pdf)

A UN Volunteer receives a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) per month and is paid at the end of each month to cover housing, utilities, transportation, communications and other basic needs. The VLA can be computed by applying the Post-Adjustment Multiplier (PAM) to the VLA base rate of US$1,282. The VLA base rate is a global rate, while the PAM is country-specific and fluctuates on a monthly basis according to the cost of living. Allowances provided are: - volunteer living allowance: a monthly allowance intended to cover basic living expenses - travel expenses: for travel to duty station upon appointment and for repatriation at the end of the assignment - settling-in-grant: a grant calculated on the duration of assignment, paid at the beginning of the assignment - insurances: life, health and permanent disability insurance - annual leave - resettlement allowance: calculated based on the duration of assignment, paid upon satisfactory completion of the assignment.
