For 9 years now, we have been welcoming international volunteers. We believe in the importance of diverse social contacts for our residents, which is why we would like to welcome a volunteer for 3 to 12 months. They would spend the day with disabled people in a warm, friendly and supportive environment, bringing to life and community support to our centre. This would make for a great opportunity to welcome a dynamic volunteer in order to promote our values and our solidarity and commitment to disabled people. Location Ancient Nivelles (Nijvel in Dutch) sports one of Belgium’s most unusual and impressive churches, which looms powerfully over a photogenic town centre. Apart from this castle-like former abbey, the town makes a fine place for an afternoon wander, with local shops, cafes and patisseries tucked along the narrow lanes leading off the main square.

This would make for a great opportunity to welcome a dynamic volunteer in order to promote our values and our solidarity and commitment to disabled people. Working and living with disabled people makes for an incredibly strong and rich experience. Taking care of them humbles us and keeps us grounded. It also helps us see them as unique individuals who embrace their differences. For volunteers, it is also a good introduction to social work and civic engagement. Our residents suffer from mild, moderate, and severe learning difficulties without exhibiting violent behaviours.

Accommodation ■ Volunteers will sleep in an individual room. ■ Toilets, showers and kitchen shared with residents. ■ Washing machines available. ■ Wi-Fi access. Food. Meals are included and eaten in the centre.
