Duration of the project is 12 months Expected Starting Date: Immediate UNDP is the UN largest provider of assistance in areas of climate change, energy and the environment with over $3 billion of grants today in over 140 countries. In the Arab region (Middle East, North Africa, Gulf Peninsula and Horn of Africa), UNDP supports an expanding set of projects to build capacity of countries to adapt to climate change, make the transition to solar solutions and build the resilience on ecosystems. These projects help countries achieve the Paris Agreement on climate change, the Sendai Framework on disaster risk reduction and SDGs on climate change, energy and the environment. Under the direct supervision of Kishan Khoday, UNDP Regional Team Leader for Climate Change, DRR, Energy and Environment, the UN Youth Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: - Support the development of UNDP country projects in areas of climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction to achieve SDG 13 and the national plans; - Support the implementation of the new UNDP regional project on climate change in the Arab region to help countries implement SDG13 and the Paris Agreement on climate change; - Support the development of regional policy briefs and knowledge products on climate change and other related matters, and provide support to regional dialogues on related topics.

A UN Volunteer receives a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) per month and is paid at the end of each month to cover housing, utilities, transportation, communications and other basic needs. The VLA can be computed by applying the Post-Adjustment Multiplier (PAM) to the VLA base rate of US$1,282. The VLA base rate is a global rate, while the PAM is country-specific and fluctuates on a monthly basis according to the cost of living. Allowances provided are: - volunteer living allowance: a monthly allowance intended to cover basic living expenses - travel expenses: for travel to duty station upon appointment and for repatriation at the end of the assignment - settling-in-grant: a grant calculated on the duration of assignment, paid at the beginning of the assignment - insurances: life, health and permanent disability insurance - annual leave - resettlement allowance: calculated based on the duration of assignment, paid upon satisfactory completion of the assignment.
