Unfortunately, many women in slums in New Delhi finds themself in horrible situations like not being able to care for their children after their husbands death etc. Sonu gives these women opportunities to support themselves and their children through self-sustainable enterprises. Teaching the women different skills such as sewing, candle-making and running their own businesses is just a small step towards giving these women more freedom and confidence. Read more on our home page: http://www.thriveseed.org/womens-empowerment-project/

-Thriveseed Responsible Tourism
This project, launched in 2017, enables former Thriveseed pupils to earn money by working as tour organisers. The reason why we ask for a financial contribution from all of our volunteers and interns is because we aim to provide all of our projects for free to the local communities. These financial contributions make up a large part of our income to cover our operating costs. You can look at the contribution rates here http://otracosa.org/volunteer/contribution/. We believe our rates are pretty fair compared to rates other organizations in South America ask for. We also hold transparency extremely important so you can see where our contributions go in our Annual Reports. We will have 2019's report up soon. I know it seems kind of unfair to ask for a financial contribution when you offer your work for free but a lot of the contribution goes to the support system we offer such as airport pickups, weekly lunches, and fun weekend trips.

Volunteer in Sri Lankan Village with Horizon Lanka Foundation

Sri Lanka Teaching

Horizon Lanka Foundation is a non-profit organization (registered as a Guarantee Limited Company) located in Mahawilachchiya, the rural outskirts of Anuradhapura, the most ancient city of Sri Lanka. It runs academic programs for students in rural villages in Sri Lanka. The student body is made up primarily of local children who come to Horizon Academies after public school, during weekends and public school vacations. The Academies teach English, Information and Communication Technology, science, mathematics, fine arts, and sports to the children. We also train the children in skills such as presentation, public speaking and personal development. In addition to these subjects, students learn much more. Thanks to our dedicated staff and the hard work of local and foreign volunteers, the students also learn important life skills such as interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, tolerance, leadership, caring for others and the environment, sustainable development and teamwork.

The Horizon Lanka Foundation is a pillar in the local communities and works with them to improve the lives of all involved. We do this by assigning our local and foreign volunteers to assist the local public schools during morning sessions as Horizon Academies do not open during mornings except for school holidays and long public school vacations. Our ultimate goal is to empower rural youth so that they may work towards improving the conditions of their community as well as the surrounding communities.
