Sales Assistant

Quetzaltenango, Guatemala Others...

Volunteers needed to run our Etsy account, wholesale orders, and local store. Experience sales, business, and technology is helpful.

Trama Textiles supports over 400 weavers in Guatemala. These women create traditional, handwoven pieces every day, and our products help us share with the world the work they have done, and in turn provides a steady income for these women. Through our sales, our customers can see where our products come from, the stories behind them, and the importance of their purchases in the lives of these women and their families. Trama Textiles provides fair wages for the women we work with, which can only be done through effective advertising through our social media platforms and websites, and steady sales flow through our online store. We strive to include a cultural background to our products, showing our customers that there’s more to the product than meets the eye. The Guatemalan culture is very rich, and is unfortunately being lost as time goes on. Through working with traditional Guatemalan weavers, we hope to maintain that tradition and culture through our products. These values are important for us to include in our voice, and who we sell our products to.

We love having volunteers with a wide range of talents and skills, so we are very open to creating a position for you that fits your skills, as well as the needs of Trama Textiles. Daily, you will will work our other volunteers and collaborate to better sell our products. We have other volunteers working in fashion design, writing, social media, and photography. There are many opportunities to work with these fellow volunteers to know what Trama Textiles is working on and what we have available for our customers. You will also work with our President and Vice President of the organization on a daily basis. These women know the weavers first hand, and have a vast knowledge of the cultural background of the products our weavers create. This provides a great opportunity to practice your Spanish’s language skills, and connect with locals.

We expect our volunteers for this position to frequently check our online Etsy orders, as well as wholesale orders. Our volunteers receive orders, communicate with customers, and ship our products all over the world. Our weavers are not merely employees, but women that we work with side by side to provide fair wages and better living conditions for their families. We are looking for volunteers that are interested in genuinely getting to know the culture of Guatemala, and humbly striving to represent the culture to the best of their ability through their posts. Volunteers work from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm regularly, but changes can be made to accommodate to your needs. It is helpful to bring your own computer, but we do have a computer available to use here if you do not have one.

UN Volunteer Social Cohesion and Peacebuilding Analyst in Cambodia

Phnom Penh, Cambodia Charity

Duration of the project is 12 months
Expected Starting Date: Immediate

The 1991 Paris Peace Agreement marked the end of decades of violence and civil war in Cambodia. UN supervised elections in 1993 heralded the introduction of multi-party democracy. After a period of powersharing, the Cambodian People’s Party has progressively consolidated its power following the 1998 elections and the adoption of the “win-win policy”. In the past decades, Cambodia has achieved impressive results in terms of economic growth recently achieving the status of Lower-Middle Income Country status. In sustaining rapid growth, Cambodia faces the challenges of a narrowly based economy and persisting disparities. In addition, competing interests have sometimes resulted in land disputes and environmental degradation.

The UN Volunteer will work in the Resident Coordinator Office and report to the Peace and Development Advisor (PDA). The UN priorities in Cambodia as per 2019-2023 UNDAF are: 1) expanding socio-economic opportunities; 2) promoting sustainable living; 3) managing urbanisation; and 4) promoting accountability
and participation. The 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the main drivers for inclusive and sustainable development.

The UN Volunteer will work closely with the PDA, focusing on supporting and strengthening linkages and collaboration with civil society partners, universities and think tanks on issues related to social cohesion, peacebuilding and SDG 16. The UN Volunteer will also support the PDA in reviewing programmatic interventions led by UNDP and other UN agencies.
